COURSE STARTS ON SATURDAY
This course is only on once a year so don’t miss out, sign-up today. It is a requirement for all members who; assist with junior water safety, training with the seniors/masters, use club equipment, patrol

Anyone who is 13 years old can join this course, whether they’ve been a nipper before or not, you just need to be a current financial member of Black Rock LSC. As a member of Black Rock your course fees will be covered. Members aged 13-14 and members 30+ are requested to complete 16 hours patrol/water safety per season, whilst senior members aged 15-29 are requested to complete 24 hours patrol.

Surf Rescue Certificate (SRC) – 13 & 14 years old by assessment date
Bronze Award (BM) – 15+ by assessment date
Radio Award – 13 or 14 (and hold SRC)

It is critical that a Life Saving Club has a healthy group of patrolling members to volunteer over the summer months. In addition the Nippers program can not operate without Water Safety members who hold their BM award.

Some of the skills you will acquire are:
- Basic patrolling & surf awareness skills
- In water rescues skills using both rescue boards and tubes
- Basic First Aid including how to bandage and treat sprains
- Resuscitation and CPR – so important for everyone to learn
- Rescue carries and signals
- Radio and Beach management
- Scenarios – these are so much fun and you’ll practice everything you’ve learnt

There is a lot to get through and we understand that you may not be able to make every session – that’s OK, talk to Steven Thirlwall at the start of the course and he’ll tell you how to catch up (some areas are covered twice, some can be learnt directly from the manual and there is revision time scheduled).
